About me

Hi, I'm Dan Weatherby, an independent social worker and the director of Daniel Grant Social Care. I have been a qualified social worker for 13 years, spending that time working within frontline child protection for numerous Local Authorities within the West Midlands and South West of England.
Before starting my journey as a social worker, I gained over 10 years' experience working with children within numerous settings. This included me working at a residential children's home who cared for children with complex emotional and behavioural needs; I worked for the Youth Offending Service, including being a support worker for the Intensive Supervision and Surveillance Programme; I had the pleasure of spending 3 wonderful summers in America working for the Boys and Girls Club; and I have undertaken numerous roles as a Youth Support Worker.
Looking back at my professional experience, I am extremely grateful for all that I have learnt from the children and families that I have had the pleasure of meeting. I remain committed to enhancing my skills to better understand the challenges that children and caregivers experience; with a particular focus on achieving this through an attachment informed lens.
I believe that attachment theory not only provides a great insight into the importance of emotional bonds between children and their caregivers, but it also enables caregivers and professionals to understand how we all use strategies to create and maintain emotional and physical safety within interpersonal relationships.

"Attachment is internal. It's an internal something that wants to work"
Mary Ainsworth
