Attachment Informed Services
Having completed an MSc in Attachment Theory, Research and Practice, and being accredited to undertake numerous attachment procedures, I provide specialist, attachment informed assessments.
By using research validated attachment procedures, and being systemically trained, assessments are concluded with a systemic formulation to help families create positive changes to the functioning of their interpersonal relationships.
The attachment procedures I am accredited to undertake are:
Meaning of the Child Interview (MotC)
By undertaking a semi-structured interview, in which parents talk about their child, their relationship with their child, and their parenting, the MotC is a method of understanding the parent-child relationship.
The MotC is informed by the concepts of attachment theory, with the focus being on exploring the range of feelings, thoughts, stories and experiences that make up the parent-child relationship.
By analysing the discourse, consideration is given to what is working well in the relationship, the difficulties in the relationship, and it identifies what type of support would be effective to help support the relationship.

The Infant Care Index
By capturing a 3-5 minute video of free play between the child and parent, the Infant Care Index classifies the parent’s behaviour from how it is judged to be experienced by the child, and the parent.
Although the Infant Care Index does not assess attachment, it assesses the dyadic synchrony and dance between the attachment figure and child. By using three scales (sensitivity, control, and unresponsiveness) to assess the attachment figure’s responses, and four scales (cooperativeness, compulsivity, difficultness, and passivity) to assess the child’s responses, it can capture the best of the dyad’s functioning.
The Infant Care Index is suitable for children from birth to the age of 15 months.

Child Attachment and Play Assessment (CAPA)
The CAPA is a doll-play procedure. By being proven as a reliable and non-intrusive method for examining young children’s mental representations of attachment and relationships, it can be used within clinical and maltreated populations
The CAPA analysis combines Crittenden’s Dynamic Maturational Model of attachment and adaptation (DMM) with Winnicott’s ‘playing and reality’ and ‘potential space’. By doing this, it assesses the child's attachment strategies, mentalising, unresolved loss and trauma, together with the DMM modifiers.
As children’s stories involve fantasy, as well as reality, the procedure should not be used to determine whether a child has been abused or maltreated.

Attachment Theory Workshop
An introductory workshop is available to professionals (including those working within social care, health, or education), who would like to learn about the basic concepts of attachment theory.
The workshop provides an oversight of the history of attachment theory and explores the different models and ideas surrounding the theory. It is designed to help professionals to reflect on and consider how attachment strategies influence the emotional functioning and behaviours of children and their caregivers. The workshop also provides practical examples for how to apply an attachment informed lens while supporting children and their caregivers.
If based within the West Midlands or South West of England, the workshop can be delivered in person, or it can be held virtually for professionals across the UK.
